Hi everyone,

I am delighted to present my first newsletter for 2008 and I look forward to providing you with content that is inspiring, highly practical and relevant to you and your organization or business and also challenges your level of thinking and performance. My aim is for you to take away at least one idea or strategy that can immediately be introduced into your business and provide significant value and benefit.

First – some exciting news.  On Sunday March 9, at 9.30am I will be appearing on the highly successful Channel 9 TV program “YOUR BUSINESS SUCCESS” . The program features one of my most successful and valued clients, Azdesignz Pty Ltd, owned by John Rochecouste and highlights his growth over the past 15 years from his lounge room to a multi million dollar business as well as what he now needs to do to ensure continued growth in the years ahead.

Over the past 18 months, I have created a Virtual Board function for John, which has had a major impact on the progression of his business. John is about to release to the market a dynamic MP4 player under his Life® brand, which will be a leader in its category, It is a wonderful product so look out for it in the weeks to come in your major retail outlets.

Virtual Board – What is it?

On the Your Business Success program, you will hear me talk about the Virtual Board concept. In short, most large organizations and companies have a Board of Directors who meet regularly, determine the strategic direction of the organization, provide a level of accountability for the key people and ensure that the organization is on track towards achieving its goals and objectives. The Board is often made up of individuals who are non executive members, but who bring to the table expertise, knowledge and experience which greatly enhances the Board's ability to deliver results.

Unfortunately, the majority of companies in the small to medium size bracket do not have the luxury of a Board of Directors to share ideas and determine strategy and direction. The business owners are left on their own drive the business growth and determine future expansion, growth as well as deal with the day to day operation of the business which as we all know can be all consuming.

A Virtual Board (as I have named the concept) is an opportunity for the business owner to form their own “Virtual Board of Directors” who will meet on a regular basis with an independent chairperson of the Board who is not intricately involved or connected to the business. There can be any number of additional people around the table including key people from the business such as Production and Sales Managers, Finance Managers etc. Every business will be different and there are no hard and fast rules. The key objective is for the Business owner and key people to share ideas, strategy and direction with a person or people who are bring their expertise, knowledge and experience to the table without being caught up in the day to day activities of the business. The purpose is also to introduce accountability amongst the “Board” members in relation to their performance and leadership.

I encourage you to watch the program on Sunday (set your video recorder or digital recorder if you are going to be out) and I will be following up in the next few weeks with a more detailed article on the intricacies of the Virtual Board concept so that you will be able to implement this in your business and enjoy the benefits to be gained from the process.
